David Hollingsworth / Cave Work
I have been practicing hand built ceramics in NYC since 2009. I feel connected to nature and community when I work with clay. The process of making my creatures is similar to working with a child's construction toy. I make individual parts, hollow eggs for bodies, tubes of various thicknesses for legs and necks, and then I assemble them. I watch their personalities develop as I build them, and I imagine that I found them in a cave when I was a kid and tried to keep them sheltered from the world outside.
