Bernadette Daroux
In 2016, artist Bernadette Daroux, fresh from receiving her BFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute, began making marbled slip cast porcelain objects while doing ceramic production at Joya Studio in Brooklyn, NY. She began selling work at local craft markets all over the city, interacting with buyers and discovering what kind of ceramic objects sparked people’s interest. Working with materials that were available to her in a limited studio environment, she created a line of functional, beautiful objects that are a pleasure to handle. She began making The Pipe Dream in 2019 which became the brand’s most beloved object. In 2021, she began teaching wheel throwing and hand building ceramic classes while working full time as a fabricator for artist Daniel Arsham and fell in love with teaching. In 2022, the brand formerly known as Gold Bear Studio, named after her senior Pomeranian, Foxy, became Bernadette Daroux to connect the woman behind the work to the brand. She currently teaches wheel throwing at Marlene Meyerson JCC and BKLYN Clay and Noble Plateware.
