Kalya O'Donoghue
Kalya is a Brooklyn based ceramicist creating functional/decorative ceramics with an emphasis on textural glaze chemistry. She breaks glazes down into their chemical fundamentals, adjusts the chemistry, and rebuilds them into functional and unique surface treatments. She also utilizes basic material science in order to integrate foreign materials such as steel into her ceramic-based work.
Kalya graduated from the RISD Industrial Design program in 2013. She has since worked professionally as the furniture and lighting designer at Jason Miller Studio for the Roll & Hill lines and launched Jason’s De La Espada furniture collection. She led product design at Home Studios focusing primarily on custom furniture and lighting for boutique hotels, bars, and restaurants.
