Berk Krak is an artist and tattooer, working out of the world-renowned Smith Street Tattoo Parlor. Krak started tattooing and painting in 2000 and has become a notable figure in both art and tattooing by creating his own distinct heavy line styles and color palettes. His tattoo work is an extension and progression of some of the most famed American tattoo traditions, combining classic symbolism with contemporary design and style. When he is not tattooing, Bert paints with watercolors and liquid acrylics.

Graffiti writers around the world know the name: TAKI 183. A teenager from 183rd Street in Washington Heights in northern Manhattan, he started writing his name in 1969. TAKI is a diminutive for a number of Greek names, and his street number following was the style of wall writers of the era.

BEYOND THE STREETS is excited to release a special collaboration with world-renowned artist Felipe Pantone, and iconic artist materials brand, KRINK.

 Felipe Pantone is an Argentinian-Spanish artist. He started doing graffiti at the age of
12, eventually graduating with a Fine Art degree in Valencia, Spain, where his studio is
currently based. Pantone evokes a spirit in his work that feels like a collision between
an analog past and a digitized future, where human beings and machines will inevitably
glitch alongside one another in a prism of neon gradients, geometric shapes, optical
patterns, and jagged grids. His work deals with dynamism, transformation, digital
revolution, and themes related to the present time. Pantone works on various forms of
software, which is then translated into frescoes, murals, paintings, and sculptures,
giving tactile merit to what’s occurring in the digital world. His applications are diverse
and united by the intersection of technology and fine art.

BEYOND THE STREETS Publishing is pleased to announce The Rubbish Puppeteers, a comprehensive hardbound follow-up to 2019’s zine by the same name. The Rubbish Puppeteers offers an in-depth look into the artistic synergy between London’s Paul Insect and late respected Brooklyn artist BÄST.

The Rubbish Puppeteers comprises over 250 pages filled with 300+ images of the duo’s Fly Tip Theatre puppets, who were mutant creations made by Paul and BÄST’s shared love of puppets as kids. Without experience in traditional puppet making, they crafted the puppets from found and recycled materials over a period of close to 10 years, with characters often referencing music and graffiti culture and personas based loosely on celebrities, cartoons or those observed while people watched. 

The book shows many of the random videos, stop motions, paintings, costumes, performance works and puppets the duo made mostly from rubbish found on the street between the years of 2012 and 2021. The puppets were all glued and stapled together quickly, strung up and then filmed dancing about. They were driven by wanting to make work inspired by their environments and passions, but something different from what was usually made in their respective studios. 

“The idea was to create something that made us laugh with spontaneity. BÄST was based in New York and I was in London, so work would only be made when one of us was in the other’s city. Although after a few years, exhibitions such as Dismaland, Glastonbury and BEYOND THE STREETS came along, which gave us more time to get together and make new stuff. Mike Bäst was an artist who somewhat avoided the limelight, someone who was happy walking the beaches of Coney Island picking up trash, working in his studio, and avoiding emails”, shares Paul Insect.

André is the Swedish-born French artist known by his graffiti alter ego, the top-hatted stick-figure tag called “Mr. A.” His fame on the walls of Paris in the early ’90s led him organically to gallery work, brand collaborations, and life as a creative director and global nightlife entrepreneur. He chooses drawing over classic canvas work, often sketching on scraps of paper or in notebooks, or on signs. His Dream Concerts posters — tempting viewers with all-star lineups never to be seen — have appeared in the streets of Paris, New York, London and Los Angeles.

"Before he began exhibiting his work in galleries, André was known as Monsieur A in graffiti communities. Saraiva was active in the early Parisian graffiti movement, alongside Space Invader and Zevs. He became identified with his iconic, cartoonish character: a round-headed figure with long limbs and a circle and a cross for eyes—a subject that recurred in Saraiva’s early canvas paintings. In the 2000s, Saraiva began a performative project called “Love Graffiti” in which he would spray paint the name of someone’s lover at an address of his or her choosing. His later works continued to employ line, text, and clean-edged geometry. In 2012, he created a large-scale installation titled Andrépolis, resembling a city based on Paris and New York in miniature scale with neon lighting."
