The piece is hand-carved from porcelain with a black underglaze, featuring a distinctive textural surface that evokes both urban landscapes and natural elements affected by climate change. The interior hollow is lined with platinum luster, symbolizing precious elements that survive or transform during intense heat—a poignant reminder of resilience in changing environments.
The creation process involves three firing cycles. After the initial bisque firing and underglaze application, the porcelain undergoes vitrification at cone 10 (2,350°F/1,288°C), transforming into a durable, non-porous material. The final firing applies genuine platinum luster to the hollow interior, creating a striking contrast between the textured black exterior and the precious metallic inner surface.
