The piece is hand-sculpted from white Limoges porcelain, featuring a horizontal gold-lustered beam that evokes the famous 1932 photograph "Lunch atop a Skyscraper," where construction workers casually dined on a steel beam suspended high above Manhattan during the construction of Rockefeller Center. This design element speaks to both the boldness of architectural vision and the ongoing transformation of urban spaces.
The creation process involves three firing cycles. After the initial bisque firing, the porcelain undergoes vitrification at cone 10 (2,350°F/1,288°C), transforming into a durable, non-porous material. The final firing applies genuine 22k gold luster to the beam element, creating a permanent metallic finish that contrasts beautifully with the unglazed white porcelain base, symbolizing the interplay between raw materials and refined design in the urban landscape.Handmade in Brooklyn, New York
